I would go with a shock that is at least the same dimensions, and then expect to rebuild it a) if the suspension geometry is any different from the donor bike, b) Honda got it wrong in the first i.e. like the CR480R and c) if you are bigger/faster etc. than Honda expected. FWIW, I heard that the course at Lake Elsinore MX Park turned out better than expected. However, course-cutting was rampant. Not a problem with the original course.
